Potential project area : Dissertation Support
Most of our students are asked to engage in the production of a dissertation supported by one to one tutorials. This project would look at how we can augment the learning environment , providing more opportunities for students to learn from each other, for example in learning sets linked to their chosen topic or research methodology. Also we would look spreading innovative practice in the form of online tools such as ‘Biblipedia’ an online group blog about books which allows students and staff to share their ideas about the texts they have read. Enhancements in virtual learning environment may allow us to reduce the time spent in one to one tutorial support.
If you would like to share in the practice developing in the Media School and IBAL then add an entry to this post ideally leaving your contact details .
I shall be spending some of the Summer developing a Blackboard site to supprt honors year projects. The emphasis will be upon:
- intelectual rigour
- critical evaluation
- primary & secondary research methods
- dissertation writing
The site will be structured as follows:
Initiating: – context, scope, performance benchmarks, rigour and expectation setting
Originating – agreeing the basic question, idea, hypothesis, concept,
Defining – defining and agreeing the deliverable and the measurable performance merits
Methods – approaches, research methods, tools, development methodologies, techniques
Planning – forecasting, planning, risk assessment, resource management
Researching – sources, secondary and primary research, critical evaluation, learning
Developing – the argument, the artefact, the learning, the skills
Reporting – presenting the written and oral evidence of compliance
Exploiting – IPR, commercialisation – if appropriate
(sorry for the wrap-round – page not wide enough)
The emphasis is place on DESIGN students
As far as possible, existing material will be used/linked.
